Concept A: Tank as boundary fence This design shows the rear garden of a house. The design includes a large grassed area and a large entertaining area in strong circular shapes. A large deciduous tree provides shade for the entertaining area. The Squareline Flexi Tank™, shown in this design has a water storage capacity of 11.5KL. It is located on the rear boundary of the block over a distance of 7.25 metres. It stands 2.1 metres tall, providing a strong physical barrier and privacy screen between neighbours. The water tank is 750mm wide. The elevation drawing shows the water tank divided into 5 sections. At each end of the tank is a section measuring 600mm wide covered with horizontally fastened hardwood timber railings preserved in Scandinavian oil. Adjacent to each of these panels is 1.3 metres wide, clad with painted or rendered Hardiplank or rendered CSR Hebel Panelling on which creepers have been cultivated using stainless steel wires and turnbuckles attached to the panels. And in the centre is a focal panel of stone cladding on which a metal sculpture has been fastened.

Concept B: Tank as pergola support This concept incorporates a large paved entertaining area set on a 45 degree angle to the rear wall of the house. Approximately half the entertaining area is embraced by a timber pergola which is covered in vines. The Squareline Flexi Tank™ is used as a support for the pergola and provides a wind break and privacy screening to the rest of the backyard. The tank serves as a load bearing wall and replaces the upright posts which would normally support the pergola. In this concept, timber railings and stone cladding cover the side of the tank facing the house. A fixed bench comprising a timber frame and hardwood decking is attached to the front of the stone cladding and provides informal seating for the entertaining area. Hebel blocks and panels have been used to construct a built in barbeque area on the right hand side of the tank wall. This is attached to the rendered tank wall and the fixture contains room for the barbeque and some low shelving, finished in Hebel HighBuild, primed with acryclic and finished with Dulux Weathershield. Small metal sculptures are affixed to the stone cladding to provide a feature for the entertaining area and a focal point for the view from the house. The rear side of the water tank has been left in its basic galvanised iron finish. The water tank is the same dimensions as in Design Concept A, measuring 7.25 metres long, 750mm wide and 2.1 metres high and holding 11.5KL

Concept C: Tank as garden screen The water tank is used as a border for the lawn area defining its boundary and screening the “utility” section of the garden – an area designated for the shed, bins, compost etc. A gate attached to the tank on the right hand side provides access to the shed and utility area. The water tank shown measures7.5metres long by 900mm wide and 2.1 meters high, providing 14.2KL water storage. This concept also illustrates how the Squareline Flexi Tank™ can be used as a landscaping feature with strong visual effect beginning an artistic theme carried on elsewhere in the garden. The finished tank was initially covered in Hardie’s Blueboard, affixed directly onto the vertical steel frame of the Squareline Flexi Tank™, and coated with acrylic base/ patch coats and then a coloured texture coat. A mosaic (or mural) was then attached to this walling, showing an underwater scene which becomes the focal point for the garden. The mosaic (or mural) is placed off-centre leaving a section of unequal width on each side of the water tank wall in the original rendered texture coat. Stainless steel wires have been attached to these sections to encourage climbing plants. A “fish gate” attached to the right hand side of the water tank continues the underwater theme. Creepers grown on either side of the tank create a third dimension to the underwater theme and the wall image is framed by other plantings at the bottom and the sides. |

Concept D: Tank under carport roof The Squareline Flexi Tank™ in this illustration holds 11.5KL of water. It measures 11.5 metres long by 730mm wide and 2.1 metres high. The wall of the Squareline Flexi Tank™ facing inwards has been lined with CSR fibre cement Weatherboard panelling. The panels were fixed directly onto the steel frame of the water tank and finished with an acrylic undercoat and two top coats. A gate built into the end of the carport and attached to the water tank allows egress from the carport to the rear of the house. The section of the tank from this point to its end is uncovered (a distance of about 1.5 metres or 20 per cent of the tanks full length). Plants are grown in hanging pots on this part of the tank’s wall. This leaves about four fifths of the tank under the carport. This internal part of the tank is used to hang shelving and shallow cabinets for tools in lieu of a shed.
